Planning to live in Panama for two months, my research on available, up-to-date, road maps led me to order the National Geographic map. Reviews from others suggested it was the best of those available at the time.My rental home was about six hours north of Panama City in a small complex where the road actually ran into the Pacific Ocean. Due to the very poor road signage in Panama, having a map is almost useless. Instead, use one of several apps on a smartphone to travel.The National Geographic map was incomplete. For example, the small village that was near to my rental property had a population of about 4,000 if you counted the dogs. Yet, a much larger town (with a commercial airport) was not identified by name on the map. That one flaw made me question the value of the map.
National Geographic maps show all the towns, cities, and roads. They are waterproof and will sustain repeated foldings without any rupture in the fabric. With regular maps, if you fold them several times, they will tend to rip on the fold lines. National Geographic maps may cost a bit more, but they are well worth it, as they have a long life.
I used this Map during my 3 week road trip around Panama during February 2011. It is a very good map a was quiteeffective touring outside of Panama City. I went through Panama City twice, once when driving toward Costa Rica andagain when returning to the international airport outside of the city. I don't know of a map that will help on navigatethis city other than hire a taxi and follow it through the city to the outskirts. This is what I did upon return to PanamaCity. The Map;however, was very good for touring
Most of the maps of Panama I have run across were not very accurate and had a lot of important information missing. This is the best map of Panama I have found. I hope to be touring in this area. This will be a useful map when I am touring.
The cart works great and is very compact when folded for storing on my sail boat where where space is a premium! It rolls very smoothly and even rides the bumps well. The only draw back is the smell of solvent it has, and I think it is the smell of the tire material, but it gets less intense with time. So, wear gloves and give it a good bath with soap when you first get it and leave it out side for as long as possible.
I liked the weather proof, heavy duty paper, but it's really only helpful for trekkers. Over view of road system w/ raods clearly marked were fine, but the Panama City map is really poor. I didn't find it very useable.
It's a good reference map.
