What can you say about Alan Watts? He was the profound popular-izer. I've re-read some of his books 7 times (The Wisdom of Insecurity; The Book; This is It), each time with new insights abounding --- and all with exquisite prose and humor that still holds up today, as does his message.

Fun to read from a historical point of view with those wonderful turns of phrase, simplification of complex ideas, and terrific insight that Alan Watts always brought to his work.The essay on psychedelic drugs is one of the best bits of insight on the subject I've ever seen.He was probably one of the major influences in the awakening of the western world to what was happening in eastern spirituality...which he liked to point out was actually happening to the west of us here in the USA.I'm particularly fond of the analogies he comes up with to instantly simplify a complex concept.

Despite being written 50+ years ago this book is still a most relevant read. Alan Watts, the Oracle of the universe was generally panned for this work by the so called gurus of the time. I think it was actually one of his best works.

Watts was incomparable as a philosopher - and was able to bring deep topics in philosophy to the common man.

Another fine book by the deceased author, Alan Watts. After reading this book, I decided that my own ideas of making my life simple were reinforced in a very positive way. Simple living, with a reasonable temper on what that means. A modernist of comfort, I only need one cup, one saucer, etc. Make do and do away with excess. Everything else is a "money" on our back. People move and carry all their "great stuff," with them. Alan has made me re-think what is really needed and what can be dismissed. Took everything out of the closet, gave it a social value, and gave away anything that did not fit my life today. Great idea, great book!

This man could write some great books. I love his work.

This book raises numerous issues that are prevalent in our modern society, and the vast majority was written in the 60's! Very interesting stuff about the way we relate to the world around us. Loved the essay on the loss of passion in cooking.

I have heard this style of mystery referred to as cozy mystery or cozy crime, meaning the usual sex and violence associated with other sub-genres in crime is missing. I tend to prefer that dark grittiness with my crime. It feels more real for me. But there do come those times when it's nice to get caught up in and enjoy a more innocent atmosphere. That's what happened with Welcome to Spicetown, the first book of the series.Spicetown, Ohio, with its street names like Paprika Parkway and Sage Street, is running high on the cutesy factor. Mayor Cora Mea Bingham plays the main character role and you can't help but adore her. She's funny and the dynamic between her and the other main character, police chief Conrad Harris, is amusing to read. Despite the saccharine setting, the mystery is something you find yourself totally immersed in solving. And after all, isn't that the whole point of a mystery novel?

“Welcome to Spicetown” is the first book in a series called A Spicetown Mystery, written by Sheri Richey, American writer. This book is quite short so it is good to read it in a couple of days. It has less than two hundred pages and as it is an easy read I finished it quickly.The cover is beautiful and was one of the reasons why I decided to give it a try. I do not regret it. I really liked the story and I am eager to continue with the following in the series. It is the first book I read from this author and I found her to be a very good writer. Descriptions, dialogues and scenes are very well written. Moreover, the mystery in it leaves you wanting for more.I will definitely recommend reading Welcome to Spicetown.

Spicetown is a cute little town nestled in the southern hills of Ohio. With street names like paprika and thyme and everybody knows everybody, one doesn’t expect a string of crimes to start bringing the citizens of Spicetown down! But when things start getting a little out of control the Mayor Cora Mae and the police chief Conrad Harris must step in and take matters into their own hands to solve the mystery.This is the first book in The Spicetown Mystery series and I’m so excited to see what else is in store for this little town!

Cora Mae Bingham, mayor of Spicetown and Conrad Harris, Chief of Police force are main characters. Conrad had memories spent with George Bingham, Cora Mae’s late husband. Conrad was introduced to all citizens in town and Bing had supported his decisions regarding the police force and later they became friends. Cora also a queen of note-taking used to record her thoughts on town planning. Everything seemed perfect until a fireworks truck went missing and the doubt landed on Harvey Salzman also called as Saucy. The book is a definite reading for most young readers but is suitable for almost all age groups. This book is filled with good humor and has a nice flow of the story

Although Spicetown is sprinkled with culinary street names, stores full of spices, and life-long citizens, out-of-towners can bring a upsturing element.The townspeople had enjoyed naming the streets to coincide with spices which created a trend for the businesses to join in. How much knowledge did he have of who coordinating burglaries and who the helpers were to sell merchandise they collected. Ivy's Oil and Organics started of as honest business, but when money became tight, you look for alternative ways to keep a business open and find persons to do the dirty work for you. Cora was stricken with her suspicions that a certain person was the mastermind behind it all.We have the character Saucy whose spirit was broken by it all.. He was ashamed and has has a good heart and he wouldn’t hurt anyone. Did he know how dangerous those boxes were that he had stored if he had known they contained fireworks?Enjoy this simple story for entertainment with flowing descriptions to colour the mysterious picture. One of the most important and distinguishing characteristics of investing for wealthy individuals involves the impact and complexity resulting from taxes. Doug Roger's book, Tax-Aware Investment Management - The Essential Guide, should be the instruction manual of choice for those interested in minimizing tax drag for themselves or their clients. As an investment advisor / planner, one focused upon tax-aware best practices, I support Doug's work and have designed elements of it into my philosophy as well.Unparalleled government deficit spending and budget shortfalls at all levels of government will require higher tax revenues and unfortunately, high wage earners and the wealthy are certain to be impacted disproportionately. Thoughtful, tax-aware planning and administration by tax, estate and investment counsel is essential and will no doubt grow in importance as the value-add (as much as 2 or 3 percent annually) of this discipline becomes known. I am convinced that better investment advisors will embrace his proven practices and concepts over the next few years. Tax-aware investment management should be an essential part of a serious investment advisor's disciplined process and Doug's book is the best guide I know of.

thought provoking and honest book. good book

I have yet to meet a prudent investor that thinks the government would do a better job of spending the money that the investor has accumulated, than they would do spending it themselves.Doug Rogers' Tax-Aware Investment Management guide is timely. Doug gives you questions to ask your advisor. He provides a historical prospective while injecting humor. Doug even synthesizes the implications of taxation on investment results in a readable fashion.Wall Street serves institutions (they live in world of relative "better than the benchmark or at least awfully darn close to it so they can keep their job" performance evaluation.Private clients are often sold what institutions bought 5 or 10 years ago. The individual investor's best interests would be better served by thinking about this topic before, during and after they invest. You can only spend what you have after tax, after fee. I suggest you invest some time in thinking about the wisdom that Doug shares.

This book could/should be used as a handbook for investment professionals considering tax aware investing. Doug has compiled years of research, insight and practice into a concise "manual" to shed some light on this complicated,and ever-changing aspect of investment management. Billions of dollars are needlessly lost each year from investors' portfolios because investment professionals fail to consider the impact of taxes when constructing and managing investment portfolios.The book is very well written and organized. Hopefully, more people will realize the importance of taxes on portfolio performance and be drawn to firm's who can add value by having the knowledge and the ability to "play the game". This is especially true in a low return environment where the tax burden can have a meaningful impact in overall returns.
