I obviously haven't had time to make any of the recipes, so, as important as they are I can't speak to them, although I will definitely be trying the salmon. Even though I already own loads of nutrition beauty books, I was struck by the amount if new info in this one. And, although this might not matter to some, the production values were absolutely ravishing

I enjoy reading health books and books about healthful ingredients for the mind and body. This recipe book contains recipes ingredients that are designed to give a person a healthful glow and keep them looking younger. However, the healthy advice is really for the entire body.I read this cover to cover and made a couple of recipes so far. I usually prefer to eat my food and drink water most of the time. In essence, I am not really a smoothie person. However, the "yellow" smoothie I made (see first two pictures) came out good. I should have used water instead of milk. It called for a plant-based milk but I used regular milk and that is not really a good idea when lemon is involved in the ingredient. Nevertheless it tasted good.I also made the miso with mushroom, sweet potato, and tofu soup (last two pictures) and that was delicious. I would have reduced the miso paste by half, however, because I found it salty. Of course for these and the other recipes I will be trying, I had to buy all sorts of stuff I did not have in my house, like tofu, dried mushrooms, miso paste, vanilla powder, ginger, etc.After reading the recipes, I would make about 15% of them. To me a book is a keeper if I find two good recipes in it and there are more than that in this text. However, these recipes are not for everyone. I had to be willing to go beyond my comfort zone in mixing all these ingredients together. I normally eat very healthy but Asian-influenced and smoothie-based staples are not something I carry in my house nor am I use to eating at home.

“Beauty Food: 85 recipes for health & beauty from within” by Maria Ahlgren is as much a lifestyle book as it is a food book. The aim of the recipes and the health tips is to give us clear skin. For instance, the author urges us to stay out of the sun, skip the sugar, and avoid overcooked, e.g., burnt, red meat. I wholly agree. The recipes are grouped together into categories that I think of as: smoothies, soups, salads, dishes with an Asian accent, desserts and alcoholic drinks. They would all go well in a tapas restaurant. Many of the dishes include avocados, bananas, and salmon. I especially like the looks of the frozen fabuccino, the skin-tox superbowl with sesame salmon with mango and lime salsa, and the saikyo yaki - miso-glazed salmon. The presentation of the book is excellent. Each recipe is accompanied by beautiful color photographs. The images often fill a full page. They look realistic, ready to eat. These are foods that I like. This kind of eating has helped me to keep my skin clear. It should do the same for anyone.

This is a very beautiful and healthy cookbook, loaded with yummy recipes. I've been very interested in the past few years about healthier eating and have been wanting healthy recipes that didn't require going to exotic food markets and spending a lot of money on to find the required ingredients. Most of the ingredients I already have, or can easily find at a regular supermarket or farmer's market. The recipes don't use a long list of ingredients and the preparation is reasonable. I don't particularly like to cook and prefer recipes that are easy and quick. Besides having short lists of ingredients, each recipe has a finished picture in full color so you get a real good look at how it's supposed to turn out. I really like this book - there is nothing negative I can find to say about it. I look forward to using it for years to come.

I think good color photos can make any cookbook more desirable, and this one has lots of them. It also includes a lot of interesting recipes I haven't seen anywhere else. The ones I'm interested to try first are the fruit "fluffs," which are quite unique and do not include the usual ingredients you would expect, such as gelatin, egg whites, or whipping cream. I want to try some of the bowls too, like salmon and avocado poke bowl. The zesty vegan pad thai looks terrific, and I also want to try the herbed cashew cream cheese. Furthermore, the recipes all look pretty simple, with just a few ingredients (I love that), and yet they look appetizing too. The ingredients are definitely conducive to beauty, as the title suggests; these are recipes that are good for your health and your beauty. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that a number of recipes didn't attract me as much because they seemed like an odd mix of ingredients . I think most people who like to eat healthy will find enough recipes in here to make it worthwhile to buy it, but bear in mind there is a variety, and some of them are macrobiotic recipes--macro bowl with roasted sweet potato, lemony sesame kale, arame seaweed, and tahini dressing is one of those, for example. Even some of those look pretty good despite not being my usual fare, and if you're on the fence, there's always the mocha mousse, which looks delicious. One thing I'm sure you'll like is that you can tell a lot about each of the recipes just by looking at the pictures, so picking out the ones you want to try is easy.

In the case of such subjects as the growth of eggs, skeletons, and crystals, Thompson cited mathematical authority: these were matters of "economy and transformation," and they could be explained by laws governing surface tension and the like. (He doubtless would have enjoyed the study of fractals, which came after his time.) In On Growth and Form, he examines such matters as the curve of frequency or bell curve (which explains variations in height among 10-year-old schoolboys, the florets of a daisy, the distribution of darts on a cork board, the thickness of stripes along a zebra's flanks, the shape of mountain ranges and sand dunes) and spirals (which turn up everywhere in nature you look: in the curve of a seashell, the swirl of water boiling in a saucepan, the sweep of faraway nebulae, the twist of a strand of DNA, the turns of the labyrinth in which the legendary Minotaur lived out its days). Medium grey print on a light grey background does not offer enough contrast to the human eye for ready recognition. The actual letters of the words appear to have uneven edges to them. Thus this does not qualify as a book, but only as a "book-like object". Alas, it is too small for a doorstep and too large to even up a wobbly set of table legs. Its only useful function in our house is as fireplace kindling...but very expensive kindling at that.On the last page is an imprint that indicates that this "book" was manufactured after I ordered it. Clearly this is a reconstruction from stored photographic or digital images. I am not against new technology per se, but it should produce a result at least as good as the technology it replaces. This does not.Another person to offer comments as far back as July, 2011, (Sarah) pointed out this defective presentation of grey on grey, and yet you have been incapable or unwilling to respond to her critique in the two years since it was posted. Do you even read these comments? I ordered a book; instead you sent me an experience of frustration and dismay. I ordered a book; you sent me an optical illusion of a book.

The thing about this book is you need to be a full blown intellectual to read it I unfortunately am not. I yearn to be but the sad truth is I am a low brow kind of reader. Never the less, while I could not follow the depth of euriditin I did enjoy the scope and detail of Thompson's narrative. If you do find you can read this book you are a brilliant man or woman.This book affords the deep and sensitive mind an I depth romp far deeper and beyond the Ken of such brilliant minds as Von Humbolt or Darwim. But beware because D'arcy Wentworth Thimpson was not only the last of the great polymaths. He may have been the greatest. .

Very interesting read. But be warned that the book is huge and as a result quite heavy (at least for a petite person like me). I would have loved to take it on my commute/travels with me but it would be a burden to carry. I often wish they had left out the footnotes (which sometimes occupy half a page) or made them smaller to reduce the number of pages.

Amazing book. Like a scientific Ulysses. Every sentence contains an un-footnoted reference or allusion to some other work--literary, scientific, or otherwise. Untranslated quotes in at least half a dozen laguages. Most of it is way over my head and probably most people's, but read on, let it flow over you and catch as much as you can of this late vVctorian polymath's immense knowledge.

I have had a copy of this book since I was 16. I have given it as gifts, and believe it to be one of the fundamental books that has changed science and the way we think of the world. As you can tell I love this book. However, the Kindle version is almost useless. The tables are not reproduced in any readable way, and there are none of the pictures that are needed to understand the text. eBooks like this do a tremendous disservice to the Kindle. This could be a wonderful resource to have on the Kindle, but no care was taken in the transcription, and to charge for this is an outrage. There is absolutely no way that I could recommend the Kindle version of this wonderful book.

This is the worst product I have ever purchased online.It is unreadable. It is a photocopy of an earlier publication. Only by extreme squinting can one make out the words.Also there is no information about the publisher. This is a scandal.

This book is a gem. Period. My favorite Chapters are I-III, VIII, XVI, and XVII. One of those books which will stand the test of time.

This is an essential book for designers. It has value and significance in relation to almost every aspect of creative evolution. This man was a great genius.It inspired the field of morphology. Check that one out.

This book took me back to my childhood in Castro's Cuba, and the desperate waiting to receive the famous telegram. I left Cuba with my parents on December 1965; we also flew from Varadero on a PanAmerican flight. Like the author, even after 50+ years in the United States, my heart belongs in the Cuba of my childhood.

The book was requested by my daughter’s school, she is in 6th, she just finished the book 2 days ago and she loved it!!! She said everyone at her class did like it was well.

I originally checked this book out to read a "teaser" of it to my students, with intentions to return it to the library and leave it at that. My beginning Spanish students (middle school) love it. I ended up purchasing the book (1) to finish reading it to my students and (2) to keep in my personal library. It is a terrific autobiographical glimpse into Castro's Cuba and gives great insight to kids about life under a dictator. My students have been intrigued by Eduardo's life and struggles growing up in Communist Cuba; the book makes them think, and realize how fortunate THEY are to live in the USA.

This is a wonderful book explaining the struggle of a boy and his family, under a socialist communist country. A must read for people to understand the reality of socialisim. Highly recommend for adults as well as middle school aged kids.
