I had never heard of Kelly Minter, and honestly wasn't expecting much out of this little workbook. Most reviews were good, but there was one that accused it of being shallow, and as a skeptic, I secretly wondered if it was going to be a boring exercise of fluff and shallow ideals. I'm SO glad I still gave it a chance! Yes, I've read 1,2 and 3 John many times, but I had never considered these little books this deeply...or realized there were so many hidden treasures to mine out of them. This was an excellent, thought-provoking Bible study that was very sound and dared to challenge us too work a little for the reward. I've done quite a few studies over the years, but this is one of my very top favorites now. Kelly had a refreshing way of looking at the Scriptures that was able to bring them to life as if you were almost experiencing the story in person. I was able to glimpse the passion of John...and the reason he was able to speak so to the recipients. He had earned their love by taking time for a real relationship with them...he was talking to them, heart to heart, as opposed to speaking down at them, condescendingly.I dislike busywork as much as the next person, and I'm not much for inanely filling in blanks. I struggle with procrastination, too, like the average bird! However, if I skipped a day here or there, I wouldn't just forget it and move on, I was compelled to go back and finish it because it was really just that good.Now that I know what I know, I hope to check out some more of her books.Thank you, Kelly, for pushing me to study harder. <3 I appreciate you being real, yet striving for more!

Great study. It's the first I've done from this author and found it easy to follow. Our women's group did this along with the corresponding videos. She's the kind of speaker and writer that you'd want to invite over coffee. Very easy to listen to and to read... (she writes much the same way she speaks which is great!) It's a good study for a range of maturity along the journey of faith, but is definitely good for those who are still getting their feet wet. Studying John is always good for all those on the path of the faith. I loved that she included recipes scattered throughout the book. It contributed to making the book quite inviting!

Great study! I read this book with my women's bible study group and we loved it. Each chapter had passages for us to look up and apply to our daily lives. Kelly Minter is a very relatable writer and she added a personal story to each section of the book. We read one chapter a week which meant doing an hour plus of reading each week. I especially loved the fact that there were yummy recipes for us to try. Our group had a big potluck once we finished the book. I definitely recommend this book especially for a women's bible study group.

Ms. Minter has blessed the Christian Community with a fresh take on a little studied section of God's Word. The books of 1, 2, and 3 John are short and sweet, but somewhat challenging...like facing a journey through the wilderness. When taking on such a task, we are always better off with a guide, a teacher who will lay out each step simply and carefully, with all the love and admiration they would show their best friend. Kelly's subtle sense of humor and soothing voice makes the video portion of the study engaging and delightful, while the workbook and daily study is filled with helpful tools to understand The apostle John's occasionally challenging language. An added bonus are the recipes included after each week's studies! When I think of this study and Kelly Minter, I think of being refreshed not only in God's Word, but in Kelly's presentation of it. If you are looking for an in depth study, but need a little quieter, calmer and sweeter approach, Kelly's your girl.

I have done my share of Bible studies but man this is a hard to follow study and she comments about John having ADHD. Offta. There is a lot of good material here but you need to be a intellect junkie to stay in it. We had over 20 people start this study and few remained through week 2 actually reading the study. Even the definitions that were given were hard to understand.If you do this study make sure you have a very experienced teacher. There is some good stuff in here but hard to get the average person to participate

Our study group is in the middle of this study on I-2-3 John. Kelly has done a very good job of captivating everyone with her wisdom in sharing the truth of God's word. We are all appreciating the study and would highly recommend it. Because of our limited time, we do each week's session over a period of two weeks -- DVD one week; discussion and study the next. It has worked out well.

This an excellent study of these 3 epistles. Kelly Minter gives examples people, especially women, can easily relate to. She has also dug into the Greek meanings to deepen our understanding of such words as "know," "love," and "remain." It is one of the best studies I have done on 1,2, & 3 John. The videos are good, too.....not too long & not too short.

The content of the product is professional, inspiring and life changing. Kelly Minter's heart and soul truly testify the love Jesus has for all people.The physical product is defective. I discovered this product was defective after the Amazon policy allows returns. There are 7 sessions on 2 disks. The 4th session is on the first disk, but ends before the end of the session. The labels on the disks are not the same as the content, which is also confusing. I ordered a second set of the DVDs hoping that only the first set was defective, but that was not the case. I am returning the second set within the Amazon 30-day return policy. I am disappointed that there's no recourse to return the first defective product, or exchange it for one that is in working order. Selling defective products is not acceptable.

If writing romances involves pressing the reader’s emotional buttons, in this book Rosalind James is giving a virtuoso performance on the giant Wurlitzer organ in Romance Park. Is that too much of a metaphor? Let’s just say you’d have to have a heart of stone not to want to jump into the book and start fixing things but you can’t, because even if you could, these characters aren’t dumb and not all problems are easily fixable, even by strong, tough, good-hearted people. Sometimes in life you have a choice between passing on a literally unsolvable, unfixable problem to somebody less capable of dealing with it, or manning up and making it your own, with all that entails. It’s a question of character, which is a HUGE running theme here, as it is in all of James’s books.It’s not all sturm und drang, though. The characters do have hard choices, no question, but there are moments in here that are so bracingly wonderful, so touching, you almost have to stop reading for a minute to absorb them. There’s a scene near the end of the book that is such a master class for romance writers in how reach into the reader’s heart and squeeze it for all it's worth that I just have to shake my head over the fact that Hollywood makes all these endless superhero movies and gross-out teen-appeal “comedies” and doesn’t even think to cinematize something like this, that has a real emotional punch to it (and that would translate so, so easily to the big screen).Anyway, the premise is pretty straightforward: New Zealand rugby legend-turned-coach Rhys (“Reese”) Fletcher finds himself suddenly called upon to be a dad to 6 year-old Casey, courtesy of his late, charming-but-irresponsible brother Dylan. If everything goes as Rhys plans, this event, while it will turn Rhys's own life upside down, should in no way affect his correct, if somewhat distant, relationship, with his brother’s widow, Zora (distant because Rhys has always had a crush on Zora). Fortunately for him, all does not go well.This is a great story with a LOT of emotion in it, and two very true-to-life kids. And oh yes, the two principals doing a whole bunch of adult things with and to each other, in the bedroom, the shower, the garage, and elsewhere. What’s not to like?

This latest addition the the Escape to New Zealand series can be read as a stand-alone.Rhys Fletcher felt an instant attraction to his younger brother's girlfriend ten years ago when he first met her. As an honorable man he immediately distanced himself from her, which Zora and her son eventually interpreted to mean he didn't like them. His brother died a few years ago without making provisions for Zora and Isaiah which has complicated their lives, but they are coping as best they can. Her brother is a strong support she can lean on, (he was another great character!)Rhys has finally come back to coach a local rugby team after years abroad and bumps into Zora and her son at the grocery store. He realizes that all is not well and that his irresponsible brother has left a mess behind again. To make matters worse, Rhys finds out that he also left a secret daughter in Chicago and that Rhys is listed as the father in the birth certificate. Of course, being the honorable man he is, Rhys steps into the breach and fetches Casey to live with him. Zora being the compassionate woman she is, steps up to help him.Ms. James does a great job writing well-rounded characters with real problems doing the best they can. Zora and Rhys deal with a mountain of real-life problems and just soldier on, never taking the easy way out. Along the way there's laughter and tears and twists and turns. The book flew by as I kept turning the pages to find out what came next.The best part of the book, for me, was the relationship between the adults and the children, especially Casey and Rhys. It was never twee. It was moving and tender, as this hard man who had no real parenting examples fumbled his way to being a great dad. Zora was a bit reckless but never foolhardy. They complemented each other in the best of ways.Added bonus, the sexual tension between them was a palpable and a testament to Ms. James' writing skills.I highly recommend this book to anybody looking for a novel about well-rounded characters who manage to make their way to a satisfying HEA. I love Rosalind James’ work, I have read everything she has published. I have to admit, I was concerned about this one, the way the relationships interconnected, the histories involved….I needn’t have worried. This was an amazing book! I absolutely adored Rhys, he was everything I’ve come to expect in a hero, all the best parts rolled into a fierce package. I loved Zora too, not what I expected at first but such a wonderful strong woman, facing her life head on and getting on with it. Ms. James even managed to keep me from hating Dylan, and I REALLY wanted to, like really wanted to. The man couldn’t make a good decision for anything but Ms. James managed to imbue him with enough humanity that even though he failed, repeatedly, and I mean FAILED, I couldn’t hate him. I didn’t LIKE him but I managed to have some compassion for him. Can I just say I love how Ms. James writes children. Casey and Isaiah were awesome, not too much, not overwhelming the story but appropriately mature (or not sometimes) and fun to read. Fictional or not little Casey had me wrapped around her finger too. This is an amazing, heart twisting journey that was so wonderful to read. I loved seeing Finn and Jenna again too. There was nothing about this story I would change and if you’re looking for an amazing “love conquers all” story then look no further and buckle up for a great ride.

Having collected all of the original Hildebrandt brothers' Middle Earth Calendars, and stored them away in a closet after years on my bookshelves, I had to see how the best of their work would look in a single, full color book. I was not disappointed! This book has all the best of their paintings from the calendars, and some pictures that I had never seen. It's a Tolkien Fan's treasure house of great moments in the Lord of the Rings. And it's a reasonable size to keep on a coffee table or in a bookshelf. I opted for the coffee table. It's gorgeous!

It's an artwork book, not a story, so the questions that Amazon asks for their review really doesn't apply in this situation. But still very happy with this book.

Amazing collection of artwork that visually captures Tolkien's epic,Lord of the Rings. Beautiful paintings, filled with grace, action,dread and magic. A must for anyone into the Hildebrandt Brothers orTolkien. You definitely won't see a visual representation like thisanywhere else, except maybe the movies themselves.

I bought this book for the art and for the sentimentality of my youth, but I was very pleasantly surprised at the depth and skill of the author. I expected to flip through it looking at the art, but I've actually read the whole book from cover to cover. Well done!

As any Brothers Hildebrandt fan knows, Greg and Tim's first Tolkein calender went on to become a worldwide bestseller. Some of the art,such as Unexpected Party or Gandalf with the Balrog was simply brilliant. Some of it looks dated today such as the hideous 1976 granny dress that Galadriel wears or the Sgt. Pepper mustache on Aragorn and the silly looking Fell beasts ridden by Nazgul who look like they're about to fall off at any minute. Oh well. Nobody got out of the 70s without some style howlers. Laugh at the funny stuff and be awed by the great.One of the strongest and most charming elements of the book is the descriptions from Greg Hildebrant's son who was five when the brothers began working on the calenders. Young Greg's memories are full of wonder that's in keeper with what his uncle and father were working on. It's not all sweetness and light however, young Greg remembers that toward the middle of the project things got increasingly difficult in the studio. The pressures of the deadline, creative disagreements and artistic disappointments (Among other things the brothers didn't have time to do a huge battle scene that they'd planned) and the need to do separate projects are all mentioned.Besides all three Hildebrandt calenders, the book has pictures of privately commissioned works (some of which are better than the orginal paintings), prelim sketches, and photos of the models. If you loved the work of the brothers or have just discovered it this will be a highly entertaining treat for you.

Greg and Tim Hildebrandt's "The Tolkien Years" is a wonderful set of illustrations that go along with mostly "The Lord of the Rings" but this book does have a few illustrations from "The Hobbit." These gorgeous works of art were originally apart of calendars that the Hildebrant brothers worked on. This book will make reading "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" much more fun as you will be able to visualize things perfectly. Along with beautiful illustrations this book has a lot of text that includes quotes directly from Greg and Tim and full text entries by Greg Hildebrant, Jr. All of the artwork in this book is in full color and look just like original pieces of art. In addition to the final artowrk there are also concept drafts from "scribble" stages, to a general rough draft, all the way to the ginal, full color, and eye-catching pictures. There is also a very nice pull out poster as a special bonus. This is a book of artwork from Middle-Earth that no Tolkien fan should be without. The art in this book will be appreciated by everybody. Bruce McMillan is the author of many math- and science-themed books for elementary students. This one illustrates the value of different American coins, from the penny to the quarter. Cheerful children in candid photographs are depicted showing how much money they possess, then on the facing page they are shown enjoying the jelly beans they have purchased (1¢ each). The number of jelly beans being enjoyed increases with the denominations of coins. The book doesn't tell a story and is primarily pictorial, although there is an interesting endnote which explains the history of jelly beans (a cross between Jordan almonds and Turkish delight), describes the seven-day process by which modern jelly beans are produced, and mentions that Ronald Reagan held an affinity for jelly beans, even sending them into space. This note may be more interesting to teachers than elementary students, however.The main weakness of this book is that, although the photo subjects seem to be having lots of fun, the eighties-style photos seem to be poorly exposed. Nevertheless, this is a great method to teach various denominations of coins. I recommend it as a library-checkout, especially if the teacher/parent is able to set up a private jelly bean store afterwards for some buying practice.

I homeschool my 4 1/2 year old son. We enjoy many different activities, but math is often a struggle! He is good at it, he just does not seem to find the time for it. After getting this book, however, we just spent 30 minutes in the dining room counting out coins and jelly beans. He can't wait to sit down and do math again(but I have to wait for his blood sugar to level out again!) The book gives very concrete examples of all the different coin combinations from 1 cent to 25 cents. We also enjoyed reading about how jelly beans are made. I got a kick out of this book as I grew up during the Reagan administration, when Jelly bellies were such a hit!Buy this book, and a big bag of jelly beans and have fun with your kids for hours--they may even learn something:)

Using this book in my classroom in introducing money was exciting. The children loved seeing the jelly beans getting smaller as the number got bigger.

My daughter first saw this book at the library when she was 2 and a half. We checked it out and she loves it!!! She looks for it every time we go to the library. I am finally buying our own copy of it. The bright colors are what caught her attention and the pictures of the kids are entertaining. Now at age 3, she knows how jelly beans are made and has a basic understanding of money. Even though she does not know she is learning money and math concepts every time we read it, she enjoys it. She knows which coin is a penny, which is a nickel, etc... Buy this book! You will be pleased.

This book was in very poor condition. It had been retired from a public library after being well worn. The seller most likely obtained it from a library sale for a dollar or less and then advertised it as "Good condition" with a selling price of $15.30. I will not purchase anything from this seller again.
